From here:
  • Accident & Casualty Cards
  • Antiseptic solution - 25ml sachet x 4
  • Burns dressing - at least 10cm x 10cm
  • Cleaning wipes x 4
  • Cling film
  • Cohesive bandage - 6cm minimum
  • Duct tape
  • "Tuff Cut" Shears
  • Gauze swabs - 5cm x 5cm x 5
  • Gloves
  • Iodine dressings ( e.g. Inodine ) - 10cm x 10cm x 2
  • Light stick
  • Needle & Syringe - A wide bore, blunt needle (i.e. 18G 'Pink' Mixing Needle) and a 20ml syringe is used for wound irrigation.
  • Non-adherent dressing - 5cm x 5cm x 5
  • Non-adherent dressing - 10cm x 10cm x 5
  • Plasters - assorted
  • Saline solution - 25ml sachets x 2
  • Blunt/ Sharp Scissors - 'Nurses scissors' with one blunt and one sharp tip.
  • Steri-strips - 6mm x 2 packets
  • Steri Strips - 3mm x 2 packets
  • Surgical blade - #20 is a usable size and shape.
  • Tegaderm - 2 (Tegaderm is an advanced dressing; it is a thin, stretchy, flexible and low-adherent plastic film which is ideal for covering wounds on traditionally awkward places such as knuckles, jawline, elbow or places which experience constant movement. Being transparent it is ideal for monitoring wounds without having to repeatedly expose them.)
  • Tincture of Benzoin x 2
  • Transpore tape
  • Triangular bandages x 2
  • Tweezers
  • Waterproof pen
  • Wound dressing - Trauma bandage as above.
  • Zinc Oxide tape
Minimum basic personal first aid kit that most people should be able to carry with them, will suffice for most paddling-related stuff that could happen:
  • 2 triangular bandages
  • 2 packs steristrips
  • Roll of compression bandage
  • Sterile dressings, small selection of.
  • Waterproof plasters
  • Waterproof dressing tape
Thoughts or additions/removals? I think that the burns stuff isn't that relevant to the paddlers, but would be useful for when camping at least.

I have a hydrogel burn dressing that I could donate, because if anyone ends up needing it, it'd probably be me anyways.

One thing I'll say is that steri-strips are absolutely useless if there's water with a kilometer radius or if the person is sweating, or if they're bleeding for that matter. you might as well just hold strips of paper against their skin and expect if to hold a wound closed.

Also to support Keyes' assertion; ductape (better than any steri- strip for the same fuction and a million others) and superglue which can be used on blisters, and if you're hardcore and need stitches, just glue it closed!

Also the saline solution eye drop packs are a good multi-use item. Eye drops obviously, if someone wears contacts they can be used to clean a contact that falls out (and is somehow recovered?), clean out grit from wounds and eyes alike, and squirt people when they're not suspecting. Probably less suspicious than carrying a syringe too.
A lot of truth is said in jest.....

Superglue was invented to close wounds in war theaters!!!

I love spray on plaster, people think its a great idea and then you spray them with it...

For those that don't know Satan shooting Hell fire, from a Tabasco covered dick, up your ass, lubed with deap heat, would burn less.

Spray on Plaster is the devil!

Thats a pretty good list.

Any chance we can have the contents of the big first aid kit put together and stored in the sprinter or minibus at all times during the trip?

The smaller more compact kits can go on the water then.

Yeah Andrew I think we always do that, as far as I know that's pretty much what the big first aid kit is for.

Gav, can you confirm?

Yep the big kit is always in the mini bus or sprinter no matter what.

Caoimhe you might want to just top it up though. There's plenty of extra stuff down in the Boathouse that can be used anyway.

It has all kinds of weird and wonderful first aid goodies in it.
